Healing Denture Aftercare Procedure
After your teeth are extracted, healing dentures will be placed and should remain in position for approximately 24 hours as directed.
Some swelling and discomfort are normal during the first day. Take all prescribed medications as instructed, and apply ice packs to the outside of your face near the extraction sites for up to 15 minutes at a time to help reduce swelling.
Your healing dentures will function like a protective bandage, helping to control and minimize bleeding, which is typically slight.
For the first 24 hours, maintain a diet of liquids and soft foods such as jello, pudding, popsicles, and nutritional drinks. Eating may feel challenging at first, but as your mouth heals, you can gradually reintroduce more solid foods.
After your dentures are placed, care instructions may vary based on your overall health, the number of teeth extracted, the complexity of the procedure, and the condition of your gums.
Please schedule a follow-up appointment around one week after your extractions, typically when your stitches are removed. If you experience significant discomfort or irritation from your healing dentures, contact our office promptly.
Your dentures will be adjusted as needed to ensure a comfortable fit. We recommend removing them at night to allow your gums to rest and promote healthier tissue recovery.
As your gums heal, your dentures may begin to feel loose. Denture adhesives can provide added stability, and in some cases, a temporary liner may be recommended—we will guide you on the appropriate timing if needed.
We’ll continue guiding you on caring for your healing dentures. Contact our office anytime with questions or concerns.
