Temporary Crown Aftercare in Carthage, MO
A temporary crown has been placed to protect your tooth and will function well under normal conditions. You likely have an appointment scheduled within a few weeks for your permanent crown, although in some cases the temporary may remain in place for a longer period.
For the best long-term health of your tooth, it is recommended to replace the temporary crown with a permanent restoration within six months to one year, as the tooth underneath is more vulnerable to decay. We understand that planning for a permanent crown can take time, so the temporary crown allows you the flexibility to prepare for your long-term treatment.
Care of Your Temporary Crown: Care for this tooth as you would your natural teeth—brush twice daily, floss once daily, and follow all recommended hygiene instructions. Avoid hard, sticky, or crunchy foods, and try to chew on the opposite side when possible. If you have temporary crowns on both sides, eat carefully to prevent them from loosening or breaking.
If Your Temporary Crown Comes Off: If your temporary crown comes off, it is important to contact our office as soon as possible so it can be properly replaced. In the meantime, you may temporarily reposition the crown by placing a small amount of petroleum jelly inside it and gently setting it back onto the tooth until we are able to re-cement it.
